Bumble and Bumble + Does dry shampoo cause hair loss?

I had a friend who sent me a screenshot of some post that was trending on Facebook, in that post there was a girl balding from using dry shampoo. 'Stop using dry shampoo or you'll go bald' she said. The type of person I am, I just had to look into it.

In today's post I will review the Dry Shampoo I use and also answer whether dry shampoo will cause balding.

Does dry shampoo cause balding?

Unlike regular shampoo which cleans the scalp, dry shampoo does not serve that purpose. The whole point of dry shampoo is to absorb excess oil from your hair. For instance - sometimes you're in a hurry and don't have time to shampoo your hair or you just naturally have an oily scalp, that is when dry shampoo becomes a life saver.

You should keep in mind that your scalp needs it's natural oils too. That's why we hear all the time that it's bad to shampoo your hair everyday. While an oily looking scalp isn't attractive and may appear unclean, it's a natural function of your body and one that's essential to the health of your hair.

When you apply that dry shampoo it sucks up any oil on your head and stays put.  It's similar to makeup setting spray in the sense that- it's just not going anywhere once you apply it. If you don't wash your hair after using it, it will sink in and possibly go into your hair follicles.  As a result, If you continue leaving it in your hair and not washing it after use it will clog the hair follicles leading to possible hair loss.

If you're going to purchase a dry shampoo, make sure it's an all-natural one and comb the product through your hair. Think of putting dry shampoo on your scalp as the same way you leave your makeup on your face overnight (you don't ever want to do that!), you could possibly break out the next day. Bottom line is, don't leave that dry shampoo in your hair overnight!

Long Term dry shampoo user comments found on dailymail:

"Can you really use 1 woman's experience and say its bad for everyone? I've used dry shampoo for over 10 years no itch no sore patches no bald patches. I wash my hair twice a week as washing it makes my scalp itch and dry I tried all sorts and this works for me - who is it to say one rule applies to everyone ?"

"I have been using it approximately 5 days per week for several years now and have never experienced any of these problems. Maybe though it's because I have naturally very oily scalp/roots. Perhaps it has to do with your skin/hair type?"

Bumble & Bumble Prêt a Powder:

This is the best dry shampoo I have ever used. I naturally have an oily scalp, and very fine hair. I get a tousled wavy hairstyle using Bumble & Bumble's Prêt a Powder, and it just keeps the oil at bay all day.

It smells nice too (sort of like baby powder but not so overpowering). It is super easy to use and doesn't leave a white cast to my dark hair. You just have to blend it in real nicely. It also adds instant and lasting volume. I use this product probably around 2-3 times a week and wash it out at the end of the day.

The only thing that I don't like about this product is how long it takes to sprinkle this stuff onto the hair, they made the holes on the top of the bottle so tiny. As a result, I end up getting this arm workout while I'm shaking it over my head.

-Polysilicone-22: A hybrid silicone powder that targets oils and absorbs them while remaining invisible on the hair; provides dry cleansing to leave hair clean and refreshed.

-Silica: Acts as an absorbent powder that remains transparent on the hair; removes oil and other impurities from the hair.
-Montmorillonite: A natural clay that absorbs oil to dry cleanse.

Fragrance, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol, Limonene, Coumarin, Geranoil, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Potassiam Sorbate

Ingredients Overview: The ingredients all get a pass except for the two highlighted in red which are synthetic fragrances.
Fun fact: You could make your own dry shampoo with corn starch as your main ingredient (along with others) but that will be a post for another time.

Price: Bumble and Bumble Prêt-à-powder  2oz = $ 31.00
Ratings: 4.5/5    -.5 because of the fragrances (-.5 because majority of hair products have fragrances anyways)
